OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

To display space labels in the 3D Building model

By taking advantage of Dynamic Views, Drawing Rules, and the ability to write to multiple model containers at the same time, you can display space labels in 3D building model containers. Simply create a 2D sheet model container within the active design file to store the space label annotation created by the Drawing Rules. This is then referenced back to the 3D building model container and (since both model containers are in the same DGN) the Drawing Rules utility provides read/write access to both model containers at the same time.

Note: It is recommended to use the 2D sheet model to reference the 3D building model for this purpose. However for bordered sheets that are plotted, it is recommended to create separate DGN files for the 2D sheet models. This ensures more than one person can open and plot sheets at any given time.
  1. Add the configuration variable BB_SPACES_NOARTIFACT and set it to 1.

Completely exit OpenBuildings Station Designer and restart. This will prevent the space label artifact from displaying.

  2. In the 3D building model, set up the floor plan view using the Floor Plan View tool.
  3. Use the Create Building View & Drawing tool to create the sheet model container and choose to automatically attach the view as a reference file. Do not use the option to open the drawing sheet. Stay in the 3D building model container.
  4. Use the Attach Reference tool in the References dialog to attach the sheet drawing model container to the 3D building model container.

In the Attach Reference dialog, be sure to select the sheet model container created by the Create Building View & Drawing command. Be sure that No Nesting is active so that only the annotation is referenced. Since walls, doors, and windows are referenced one level deeper, these elements will not display.

Note: DataGroup space annotation labels appear for spaces that are currently placed in the 3D building model container. When the position of space bounding walls is changed, the Area in the space label updates even though the space label is actually in a different model container. When new spaces are added to the 3D building model container, label information appears even though the labels are actually placed in the 2D sheet model container.
